Muzee Scheveningen as a Stichting was established on the 8th of September in 2006 to maintain knowledge about the history of Scheveningen, its culture, its relation with the sea and its biology and daily life in the town. Want to know more about the Muzee Scheveningen?
Since 2013, Muzee Scheveningen was established as a Cultuuranker for Scheveningen, giving it the status as the hub where cultural activities for and by residents are organized. There are eight Cultuurankers in The Hague and together they are responsible for providing for art and culture in all parts of the city.
Daily life in Scheveningen is a common theme of the collection in Muzee. The fishery, bathing culture, old crafts, tools and paintings give a detailed overview of what life used to be like in Scheveningen. The collection of marine biological material in Muzee mostly consists of shells from all around the world and is one of the most extensive in the whole of the Netherlands.
The volunteers in Muzee are a core part of the collection. Many have great historical knowledge of Scheveningen and the fishery. Moreover, they contribute a lot to the friendly atmosphere and accompaniment of visitors, which connects the museum to Scheveningen.
Muzee Scheveningen would never run as smoothly as it does without its motivated group of employees and volunteers.
