4 September 2021 – 28 February 2022

High waves, rough sea. Days that become night and nights without sleep become day again. Far from home. Fear. sadness. But also adventure, freedom and camaraderie. Lots of adventures and of course lots of fish. Muzee presents ‘Fishermen ~ Salt & Sweet’ from September 4, 2021 till February 28th, 2022. Salty and sweet memories of 12 fishermen translated into 12 portraits and a video documentary by Roderik Rotting.

Salt & Sweet

Fishermen ~ Salt & Sweet tells the story of what it was really like to be a fisherman in Scheveningen. The rough and the soft side, the joy and sorrow, the chaotic seas and the mainland: the Sweet and the Salty. What was it like to be on board as a young man and what was life like being away from home for weeks on end? What do gale force 10 winds feel like and what does it feel like to haul heavy nets full of fish back on board? How sweet it is to finally step back onto dry land be scrubbed clean in a warm washtub and to see your newborn child for the the first time.

In this exhibition it is possible to get to know one of the 12 fishermen. They give guided tours on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  They are happy to tell you more about all their adventures in the ‘Strong Stories Cafe’ where they drink a gin, maybe one with you!
